The artificial intelligence race has reached a historic milestone. Anthropic, the creator of the Claude large language model family, is closing a monumental $30 billion funding round at a pre-money valuation exceeding $900 billion. This massive injection of capital officially vaults Anthropic past its chief rival, OpenAI (most recently valued at $852 billion in March 2026), making it the world’s most valuable private AI company.
Unprecedented Growth Powered by Enterprise Revenue
Unlike early venture-backed tech valuations driven by mere hype, Anthropic’s astronomical valuation is backed by hyper-accelerated revenue. The company’s annualized run-rate (ARR) revenue stood at approximately $9 billion at the end of 2025. By February 2026, it hit $14 billion, and by April, it crossed $30 billion. With expectations to more than double quarterly revenue in Q2 to $10.9 billion, the company is on track to eclipse a $50 billion annualized run-rate by the end of June 2026.
This stellar growth is largely driven by its enterprise software solutions. Specifically, Claude Code, the agentic coding product launched in May 2025, has achieved a massive $2.5 billion in annualized revenue on its own. Major financial and consulting institutions like Blackstone, Apollo, Goldman Sachs, and PwC have deeply integrated Claude into their core operations, securing Anthropic's foothold in the high-margin enterprise sector.
The Mega-Investors Behind the Pre-IPO Deal
This funding round has moved at a breakneck pace, coming together in less than four weeks. Four premier venture firms are co-leading the round: Sequoia Capital, Dragoneer Investment Group, Altimeter Capital, and Greenoaks Capital Partners, with each reportedly contributing at least $2 billion. Existing heavyweights, including Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund and General Catalyst, are also participating. Because the round is structured as a pre-IPO injection, it positions the firm perfectly ahead of a highly anticipated public market debut targeted for October 2026.
Massive Compute and Cloud Infrastructure Backing
Sustaining frontier-class AI models requires massive physical infrastructure, and Anthropic has secured the raw computing power to support its rapid expansion. The firm recently arranged a colossal $45 billion compute deal with SpaceX, alongside a $1.8 billion agreement with Akamai Technologies for edge computing and network acceleration. This is in addition to deep cloud integrations with its primary cloud providers, Google and Amazon, who have previously committed billions of dollars in investments and cloud resources.
