Scaling Distributed Compute and CPU Workloads

While graphics processing units (GPUs) frequently dominate discussions surrounding generative model training, enterprise-scale AI deployment demands robust CPU and edge infrastructure for data pre-processing, request orchestration, and ultra-low-latency model inference. Under this new agreement, Anthropic will leverage Akamai Cloud's globally distributed computing footprint and software stack to fulfill accelerating CPU demands across its worldwide Claude user base.

The contract structure also includes provisions for an additional expansion of up to $9 billion, bringing the total potential relationship value to roughly $20 billion. In tandem with the agreement, Akamai granted Anthropic equity warrants covering up to approximately 5% of Akamai's outstanding common stock, with an initial 2% vesting immediately alongside the announcement.
