In what is being hailed as the largest private funding round in history, OpenAI has successfully raised $110 billion, bringing the company’s valuation to a staggering $730 billion. The round, backed by industry giants including Amazon, Nvidia, and SoftBank, comes alongside a major strategic shift: a $50 billion cloud infrastructure deal with Amazon Web Services (AWS).

The agreement designates AWS as the exclusive third-party cloud distribution provider for OpenAI's upcoming model, "Frontier." This move effectively ends OpenAI's long-standing era of cloud exclusivity with Microsoft Azure, though both companies have released statements clarifying that their existing partnership remains intact for other projects. As part of the deal, AWS will provide OpenAI with 2GW of dedicated Trainium capacity, which is essential for the compute-heavy requirements of frontier-scale AI development.

Key Developments in the Deal:

This expansion into the AWS ecosystem highlights the growing need for specialized AI hardware, as Amazon’s Trainium chips become a critical alternative to traditional GPU clusters in the race for AI supremacy.
