Oracle and NetApp Unveil Native OCI Storage to Accelerate Enterprise Cloud and AI Workloads

In a major milestone for enterprise cloud architecture and large-scale artificial intelligence pipelines, NetApp and Oracle have announced a new, fully managed native storage service: the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) NetApp Storage Service. Unveiled at the NetApp INSIGHT conference, this strategic collaboration brings NetApp’s flagship ONTAP data management system natively into OCI as a first-party service.

Bridging Mission-Critical Enterprise Data and Cloud-Scale AI

Modern enterprise artificial intelligence and machine learning pipelines demand unprecedented throughput, ultra-low latency, and seamless data governance. However, migrating complex on-premises storage architectures to the cloud without re-architecting applications has historically presented significant friction. The newly introduced service addresses this bottleneck by allowing organizations to preserve their established ONTAP workflows—such as SnapMirror replication, FlexCache acceleration, and multiprotocol support—directly within the OCI console and APIs.

With this move, enterprises can securely feed high-performance AI data pipelines, run compute-heavy electronic design automation (EDA), manage complex database estates, and power high-performance computing (HPC) clusters while retaining enterprise-grade data protection, snapshotting, and compliance capabilities.

Completing the Hyperscaler Matrix

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure represents the fourth hyperscale cloud provider to introduce native, first-party ONTAP capabilities, following integrations with Amazon Web Services (Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP), Microsoft Azure (Azure NetApp Files), and Google Cloud (NetApp Cloud Volumes). By bringing native ONTAP support to OCI, enterprise customers operating in hybrid and multi-cloud configurations can now migrate data and workloads across major cloud providers with identical management semantics and reduced operational overhead.

Availability and Outlook

The OCI NetApp Storage Service is currently in preview with select enterprise customers, with general availability slated over the coming 12 months. As enterprise AI adoption moves from experimental prototypes to mission-critical production pipelines, reliable, high-performance data infrastructure continues to serve as the critical bedrock of enterprise AI scalability.
